Imojeet Ningombam

Imojeet Ningombam was born on 17th July 1972, at Thoubal Ningombam Mayai Leikai, Thoubal District, Manipur. He uses the pseudonym Imojeet Ningombam. A Science Graduate from Manipur University, he has published three collections of poetry: Eibu Kouriba Lamdamduda (1996), Punshigee Loinaidraba Eeshei (2006), and Loibee Cheeng-gum Lengdana (2019). His poems have been translated into many Indian languages, including Bangla, Nepali, Gujarati, and Marathi. A few of his poems were also included in The New Voices (English, 1998), Torongo O Aakash (Bangla, 2008), Anouba Manipuri Sheireng: 1950‑2010 (Sahitya Akademi, 2010), and Akhannaba Manipuri Sheireng (Sahitya Akademi, 2010). He won the Manipur State Kala Akademy Award in 2022. He is also the recipient of the ‘Thokchom Jogendra Neengshing Sanagee Medal’ (Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, Imphal) in 2009 for his second book and the ‘Rajkumar Mahabirsana Ningshing Sheireng Mana’ (Iramdam Manipur Apunpa Khorjei Lup, Awang Potsangbam) in 2020, as well as the ‘Akoijam Oja Bijoy Ningshing Sahitya Mana-2022’ (Manipur Sahitya Samiti, Thoubal) and the ‘Toijam Bihari Ningshing Sahitya Mana-2022’ (Writers Club Manipur, Nambol) for his latest book.

He served as a journalist for about twelve years in different media houses in Manipur, working at various levels, including as a joint editor for Hueiyen Lanpao, a local daily newspaper. He is currently the joint editor of Sahityagee Pao, a literary journal of the Writers’ Forum, Imphal, and the editor of Mapao, a bi-annual literary journal of the Fiction & Poetry Club, Manipur. He has been associated with various literary organizations, such as the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal; the Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, Imphal; the Writers’ Forum, Imphal; the Manipur Sahitya Samiti, Thoubal; and the Khorjeiroy Khutmarup, Thoubal. He was the president of the Fiction & Poetry Club, Manipur, for two consecutive terms.
