Biography

Dr. S. K. Apanba was born on 12 May 1956 at Berabak, Sonai, Cachar District, Assam. A noted Manipuri poet, lyricist, and cultural activist, he is the elder son of Sinam Brajalal and R. K. Romoni Sana. He currently resides in Taothong Apheiba Block Lamkhai, Imphal West, Manipur, with his wife Moirangthem Ningol Sinam Ongbi Nongleima Leima and their two daughters, Sinam Chanu Langdon and Sinam Mangalsana Chanu. Academically accomplished, Dr. Apanba holds an M.A. in Manipuri Language and Literature, an LL.B., a B.Ed., and a Postgraduate qualification in Sericulture. He was awarded a Doctorate by Global Human Peace University, Chennai, for his thesis “Literary and Cultural Studies of Manipur.” Professionally, he served with distinction as a Manager in the Department of Sericulture under the Government of Assam, a position he held until his retirement in 2018. From an early age, Dr. Apanba has been deeply involved in literature, culture, and the Sanamahi faith. Over the decades, he has served as editor of several prominent Manipuri journals, including Kanglei Loinasillon, Loinasillon, and Kangleikhol Journal. Alongside his editorial work, he has contributed as a journalist and columnist and is an approved lyricist of All India Radio, Imphal. His creative journey reached a significant milestone with the publication of his debut poetry collection, Yaawaa Amattang, which showcases his lyrical voice and poetic depth. A passionate advocate for Manipuri identity, Dr. Apanba is a life member and active contributor to numerous literary and cultural organisations, including the Fiction and Poetry Club, Patriotic Writers Forum, Kangleipak Loinasillon Apunba Marup, Sheihek Sheireng Sheipal Shemgat Lup, Writers’ Platform, All Manipur Music Association, and Sheirengbasinggi Apunba Lup. Through these platforms, he has worked tirelessly for the promotion and preservation of Manipuri literature, music, and cultural heritage. Now, at the age of 70, Dr. S. K. Apanba continues to inspire through his writings, songs, and social contributions — embodying a lifelong dedication to the cultural and literary legacy of Manipur.
