Biography

Budhichandra Heisnamba was born in 1973 at Komlakhong Mayai Leikai and currently resides at Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak, Imphal. He is the son of (Late) Heisnam Yaiskul Singh and Salam Ningol Heisnam Ongbi Keinaton Devi. He holds an M.A. in History and a Ph.D., and he is presently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Thambal Marik College, Oinam.

A versatile and committed writer, he has contributed to Manipuri literature through poetry, short stories, and children’s literature. His published works include Ningtamba Amasung Atiya (2004), Apikpa Nungsasor (2006), Ngamkhei Gi Wangmada (2013), and Eranyaida (2023). His writings have been widely published in literary journals and anthologies, and he has actively participated in numerous literary events organised by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, across different states of India.

Deeply engaged with the literary and cultural landscape of Manipur, he is associated with several prominent organisations, including the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal, Cultural Forum Manipur, Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal, Manipuri Literary Society, Imphal, and the Fiction and Poetry Club, where he also served as President for two terms. His short story collection Ngamkhei Gi Wangmada received the Yumnam Lala and Bidhumukhi Ningsing Mana (2015) from the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad and the Sahitya Akademi Award (2018) from the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. His more recent work, Eranyaida, was honoured with the Nepram Khilendro and Rajkumari Komlasana Warimacha Mana (2024) by Leimarol Khorjeikol (Leikol) and the Jananeta Hijam Irabot Ningsing Mana (2025) by the Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal.
