Basanta Chongtham

Chongtham Basanta was born in 1975 at Akham, Imphal West, Manipur, and currently resides at Mayanglangjing Taning Awang Leikai , Imphal West, Manipur. He is the son of (Late) Chongtham Koroba and (Late) Chongtham Ongbi Kamalini Devi. He is married to Chingangbam Sanatombi Devi, and together they have two children. From an early age, Basanta nurtured a deep passion for writing, which has continued to shape his creative life. Alongside his literary pursuits, he has also written song lyrics and released an audio cassette titled Wangmada Leihoubi, featuring his lyrical work. In 2025, Basanta published his debut short story collection Thawai Palliba Mitam, a significant milestone that marked his emergence as a distinctive voice in Manipuri fiction. He is currently serving as the Vice President of the Fiction and Poetry Club, Manipur, contributing actively to the state’s literary and cultural landscape.
