Laishram Lenin Singh, better known by his pen name Lenin Khumancha, was born on 2nd January 1988 at Khangabok Makha Leikai, Thoubal District, Manipur, to Laishram Bihari and Laishram Ngangbi.
He pursued higher studies at Manipur University and obtained his Ph.D. in Manipuri Literature. Professionally, he is a journalist and currently serves as Sub-Editor of The Sangai Express. Alongside journalism, he is widely recognized as a poet, editor, and literary organizer.
Lenin’s literary journey began with the poetry collection Mangdasu Taibangdasu (2007), followed by Machushinggee Machu (2011) and Matamgee Manglan (2017). As an editor, he has contributed to important works such as Khonggul Liklam (2009) and Sheireng Sheireng (2013, co-edited with Parshuram). He also played a pioneering role in Manipuri literary journalism, founding journals like NGAKLOU and MAPAO, and serving as the Editor of LAMBI during his postgraduate years.
For his remarkable contributions to Manipuri literature, he has been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Arambam Ibungohal and Binodkumari Literary Award (2017), Tekcham Kamini Kusa Loidang Ningshing Khorirol Mana (2019), Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar (2021), and the Lairellakpam Dharambir Singh Literary Award (2022).
