Biography

Ningombam Nando Singh (popularly known as Nando Ningomba) was born in 1982 at Pangantabi Mayai Leikai, Kakching District, Manipur, to Ningombam Momon Singh and Ningombam Ongbi Sakhi Devi. He currently resides at Ghari Makha Leikai, Imphal West, Manipur. A dedicated scholar, he earned his Ph.D. from Manipur University. Nando Singh began his career in journalism as a Feature Sub-Editor for the Manipuri daily Naharol Gi Thoudang (1999–2006) and later worked with The Sangai Express (Manipuri edition) from 2009 to 2011. Deeply engaged with Manipuri cinema, he is the Founder General Secretary of the Manipuri Film Journalist and Critics Association, Imphal — a position he continues to hold. He is also the Founder President of the Manipuri Language and Literature Development Forum, where he played a key role in making Manipuri language a compulsory subject up to Class 12 in the academic syllabus. Beyond journalism and advocacy, Nando Singh has left a significant mark on Manipuri literature and culture. He is widely known as a lyricist, with many of his songs earning popularity in Manipuri films notably Khallude nongmata nungsibase asuk wagani and Karamna nangbu kaoro haibano. He has served as Assistant Editor for Lambi, the research journal of the Department of Manipuri, Manipur University, and for Image, a Manipuri film journal. Currently, he is the Editor of Mapao – Research Journal of the Fiction and Poetry Club, Manipur, and works as the Feature Editor of Manipuri News, a leading Manipuri daily. For his contributions to Manipuri film and literature, he was honoured with the “Nation’s Pride Award 2024” by Gyan Uday Foundation, Kota, Rajasthan. He has also published two significant books — Manipuri Khorirol Da Lanai Mityeng and Khongul Amasung Mayi — further cementing his place as an influential voice in contemporary Manipuri literary and cultural discourse.
